Our Community
Founded in 1971 by local families, PSCCC was driven by the era’s progressive values, including alternative approaches to early education that are now considered best practices. Every member also helped build the school from the ground up (rumor has it there may have even been some squatting involved!). From these humble beginnings, we’ve been flourishing in our current light-filled space since the 1990s.
Our teachers and administrative leaders are skilled, loving, and deeply experienced. The strength and continuity of the Collective spirit is a testament to their dedication and care. Many have been here for more than 20 years or have been Collective parents themselves. We even have one alumna (we love you, Juelle!). Pictures to come.

Our Families
Families come from neighborhoods near and far, developing deep and lasting friendships. While most live within walking distance in Prospect Heights and Park Slope, a sizable number come from beyond - from downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene, Crown Heights and Prospect Lefferts Gardens to Windsor Terrace, Ditmas Park and Sunset Park. Most have heard about us via word-of-mouth.
In addition to contributing hours to the Collective, parents are welcome to participate in classroom programs when they can, for example, share special talents or skills (e.g. music, storytelling, cooking the special food of their family holidays). Not only is parental classroom participation enjoyable for one’s child, it is also a meaningful way for classmates to learn more about one another’s families.
Our Board
A mix of executive staff, teachers, and current Collective parents with relevant experience comprises our board. Elections happen at the end of every school year.

EMBRACE ALL
We believe that all forms of diversity enrich our community, especially our children in their early critical years. We strive to create an inclusive culture that reflects and celebrates the diversity of Brooklyn.
